Founded in 2000, the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) has rapidly developed into the largest multi-disciplinary university in Macao. MUST is among the world’s top 300 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings (2021-2025).
MUST endeavours to educate students specialized in various fields, attaches equal importance to teaching and research, focuses on the quality of programs, and pursues excellence. The beautiful surroundings and convenient transport render it an ideal place for hosting international conferences.
Currently, MUST has three state-level research platforms:
In collaboration with mainland scientists, MUST is also a key leader in the scientific mission of the “Macao Science 1” satellite launched in May 2023 as the world’s first satellite to precisely measure the earth’s magnetic field in low latitudes.
In 2021, MUST has been designated by the Central Government as one of the two universities in Macao to develop a high-level demonstration base for innovation and technology in the Hengqin (Zhuhai) In-Depth Guangdong-Macao Cooperation Zone. On 19 Dec, 2024, President Xi Jinping visited MUST. He provided important guidance for the University's development, encouraging two-way exchanges between the mainland and Macao. The University has also established the Zhuhai-MUST Science and Technology Research Institute to meet the development needs of core industries of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). GBA is also a city-cluster region highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, and coastal protection and flood resilience are critically important issues.
To help promote Macao’s economic diversification and support its sustainable infrastructure development, MUST and China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) have jointly established the “Macao Marine Engineering and Environmental Research Center” in 2023.
